EPISODE 1

(10th century 918-1392 AD, the ancient kingdom of Goryeo stood tall, marking the dawn of a glorious era in the Korean peninsula.)

The grand wooden gates of the Goryeo royal palace swung open, admitting a flurry of courtyard activity as officials scurried to attend a newly arrived dignitary.

Courtier Kim bowed low, sweeping his silk sleeves back. "Ambassador Lee from the neighboring province, welcome to the palace."

Ambassador Lee returned the bow with practiced formality. "My thanks, Courtier Kim. I bear urgent intelligence that requires the immediate audience of King Tae-ha."

Courtier Kim shifted nervously, glancing past the courtyard towards the inner training grounds. "His Majesty is... indisposed at present."

Following his gaze, Ambassador Lee caught the ringing echo of clashing steel reverberating across the stone courtyard. His brow furrowed. "The King engages in swordplay at such an hour?"

"His Majesty maintains that a disciplined body cultivates an unyielding mind, Ambassador," Courtier Kim replied with a polite smile, gesturing for Lee to follow.

They stepped onto the gravel periphery of the training grounds, where sunlight glinted off flashing blades. Sweat glistened on skin as two figures traded a relentless flurry of strikes. With a swift, decisive flick of his wrist, King Tae-ha disarmed his opponent, the practice sword clattering across the stone floor to applause from watching guards.

King Tae-ha sheathed his weapon, his dark hair bound back to reveal his sharp jawline and focused, piercing eyes. Breathing evenly, he turned toward his sparring partner. "Your form sharpens, Captain Hwan-hee."

Captain Hwan-hee bowed deeply, his arm resting across his chest. "Only by standing against Your Majesty's instruction, Sire."

Straightening his posture, King Tae-ha turned toward the approaching envoy, his expression smoothing into a stoic royal demeanor. "Ambassador Lee. Courtier Kim informs me you bring pressing matters from the border. Speak."

"Your Majesty," Ambassador Lee bowed deeply. "Incursions along our shared frontier have escalated sharply. Our scouts suspect these raiders receive aid and sanctuary from within Goryeoโ€™s borders."

Tae-haโ€™s gaze darkened. "Sponsoring foreign banditry on Goryeo soil is treason." He turned sharply to his attendant. "Courtier Kim, summon General Yu-bin at once."

"At once, Your Majesty," Kim bowed, stepping back.

Ambassador Lee stepped forward, drawing a folded parchment from his robes. "There is more. Near the latest raid site, our scouts recovered this mark." He held out the scroll, revealing an insignia inked upon the parchment, the mark of Lee Sung, the vanquished rebel leader.

King Tae-ha took the parchment, eyes narrowing as he scanned the seal. "Lee Sung was reported dead after the last uprising. If his faction stirs again, the court must act swiftly. Courtier Kim, dispatch word to seal the northern passes and double all patrols."

"Understood, Your Majesty. I shall apprise General Yu-bin of these developments the moment he arrives."

"Do so," Tae-ha nodded, addressing the envoy once more. "Your province's vigilance honors our alliance, Ambassador. A full investigation will be conducted, and those responsible will face royal justice. Courtier Kim will see you safely escorted."

"My gratitude, Your Majesty," Lee bowed low before withdrawing.

Pacing the courtyard alone, Tae-haโ€™s mind weighed the heavy implications of the mark. A resurgence of Lee Sungโ€™s rebel threat directly challenged the hard-won stability of his father's legacy.

"Your Majesty," Courtier Kimโ€™s voice broke his train of thought as the courtier returned alongside a tall, broad-shouldered commander clad in deep blue silk armor. "General Yu-bin has arrived."

General Yu-bin bowed deeply, his expression resolute. "Your Majesty. I have been briefed on the Ambassador's report. What are your commands?"

"General Yu-bin," Tae-ha commanded, his tone calm but unyielding. "Conduct a quiet, thorough investigation into these rebel sightings. Uncover Lee Sungโ€™s sympathizers within our borders and tighten security at every entry point. No one enters or leaves without direct royal clearance."

"Consider it done, Sire," Yu-bin replied smoothly. "Shall I also ready the elite garrison for potential internal unrest?"

"Yes," Tae-ha answered, staring out over the palace gates. "If Lee Sung seeks to destabilize this kingdom again, he will meet the full force of Goryeo. Keep me informed of every step."

"Always, Your Majesty," Yu-bin bowed.

Far away from Goryeoโ€™s misty borders lay the vast land of Bharat, where rich spices perfume the breeze and intricate sandstone corridors reflect the golden sun. Within the grand palace halls, sunlight filtered through arched colonnades as Princess Maitraโ€™s elder brothers, Princes Arjun and Veer, gathered with their wives, Princesses Malti and Rukmini.

"Where is our sister?" Arjun asked, scanning the peaceful courtyard. "We have scarcely seen her since morning prayers."

Malti smiled softly, setting down a brass chalice. "I sent a maiden to check on her. She is in her private courtyard, engaged in her usual pastimes with her companions."

Veer chuckled heartily. "Knowing Maitra, she is either practicing archery or wielding a blade. That girl possesses all of Fatherโ€™s restless, adventurous spirit!"

In the secluded palace courtyard, a tense silence held sway, broken only by the sharp, rhythmic ring of iron blades. Two masked figures clad in dark sparring garments moved in a disciplined dance of defense and offense. Golden sunlight glinted in the luminous brown eyes of the swift-footed warrior as she executed a flawless parry, forcing her opponent back several paces.

Her leather training mask slipped away, revealing Princess Maitra. Soft, honey-toned skin glowed with sweat, framing delicate features, high cheekbones, and dark, waist-length hair cascading over her shoulders. A triumphant smile curved her lips.

Opposite her, the second fighter removed his mask to reveal her personal bodyguard, Do-hyun. Chiseled features and a sharp jawline gave him a stony, vigilant demeanor, though his gaze softened slightly as he took in the princess's victory.

From the shade of the archway, her ladies-in-waiting, Tara and Nandini, applauded warmly. "A brilliant victory, Your Highness!" Tara teased with a light laugh. "Did Do-hyun yield to your skill, or was he merely holding back his strength?"

Malti laughed softly, wiping her brow with a linen cloth. "Do-hyun is ever gracious, friends."

Do-hyun bowed his head slightly. "Princess Maitraโ€™s speed surpassed my guard today. Perhaps I underestimated her focus."

"Only because I learned from the best instructor, Do-hyun," Maitra replied warmly.

As they spoke, Do-hyunโ€™s sharp gaze reflexively swept the surrounding balconies, one hand resting habitually on the pommel of his sheath.

"He never lowers his guard for a single second," Tara whispered to Nandini under her breath.

"Disciplined and unflinching," Nandini agreed in a quiet nod. "The King could not have chosen a more devoted protector for her."

Detecting their whispers, Do-hyunโ€™s eyes flicked briefly toward the maidens, his expression guarded. Maitra stepped forward gently. "Come, let us return inside. Do-hyun will escort us."

As they approached the main pavilion, Princes Arjun and Veer stepped out to greet them, accompanied by Malti and Rukmini.

"Maitra, perfect timing," Arjun spoke up, his tone turning serious. "Father wishes to speak with you regarding your future arrangements."

Maitra paused, her breath catching slightly. Beside her, Do-hyunโ€™s posture stiffened instantly, his jaw setting as he sensed her sudden tension.

"Indeed, little sister," Veer added with a fond but grave look. "Your marriage proposals have multiplied considerably. Father receives royal envoys daily."

Maitra glanced quietly at Do-hyun. His expression remained a silent, unreadable mask, yet his quiet presence beside her felt like a solid shield. Masking her internal turmoil with a calm posture, Maitra turned back to her brothers. "I shall go speak with Father. Who are these suitors?"

"The Prince of Kamarupa, the Maharaja of Gujarat, and the Raja of Odishaโ€”all seeking formal alliance with Bharat," Arjun detailed.

Do-hyunโ€™s dark eyes locked onto Maitra, a subtle flare of intensity flashing in his gaze, sharp as a quiet warning.

"Father leans toward the alliance with Kamarupa," Veer noted quietly. "It offers immense strategic advantages along the eastern border and secures vital trade routes.โ€

Maitra paused in the corridor, turning toward Do-hyun with a low voice. "Do-hyun, I need a moment with you. Tara, Nandini, please escort my brothers and sisters-in-law to Father's chambers. We will join shortly."

Tara and Nandini bowed gently and guided the royal family members ahead, leaving Do-hyun and Maitra alone in the corridor. Do-hyun stood respectfully distant, hands clasped behind his back, his intense dark eyes fixed on hers.

"Your Highness, what troubles you?" Do-hyun asked softly.

Maitra kept her gaze locked onto his, her voice barely above a whisper. "These marriage proposals... Father will push for an alliance. My freedom, my choiceโ€”everything will be decided by politics."

Do-hyun's neutral mask held, but his eyes narrowed slightly as he absorbed the weight of her words. He took a single, subtle step closer, maintaining decorum while lowering his tone. "Your Highness, your safety and happiness are my priorities. If this alliance threatens either, I will... put my words regarding this in front of the King accordingly."

Maitra nodded at his veiled promise, knowing he would stop at nothing to protect her. "Do-hyun, what do you think of these suitors? The Prince of Kamarupa, specifically?"

Do-hyun's expression turned cold, his voice disciplined yet dripping with quiet disdain. "In my observation, Your Highness... he is not worthy of you."

A faint smile curved Maitra's lips. His opinion carried far more weight than any royal decree, and her eyes sparkled with quiet amusement at his blunt assessment. "Your honesty is refreshing, Do-hyun. Most courtiers would praise the Prince's virtues to gain favor."

Do-hyun bowed his head slightly. "My duty is to protect and serve Your Majesty's daughter truthfully."

He straightened up, his composure resetting into disciplined neutrality. "Shall we proceed to the Kingโ€™s chambers, Princess? Your father awaits."

"Yes, let us go," Maitra replied, feeling the quiet warmth of their shared understanding. "I must face these marriage proposals and Father's expectations."

They walked side-by-side into the grand hall, Do-hyun falling into step beside her in silent protection. Upon arriving at the throne room, Princes Arjun and Veer turned alongside Princesses Malti and Rukmini. The King himself stepped forward from behind his throne, his eyes resting warmly on Maitra.

"My daughter," the King spoke gently, "we have matters of great importance to discuss. Your future, Bharat's future... let us begin."

The King raised a hand, signaling the guards stationed around the chamber. "Leave us. This discussion requires family and spiritual counsel only."

The guards bowed and withdrew, including Do-hyun. Before turning to leave, Do-hyun cast a brief, intense glance back at Maitra, his eyes conveying a unspoken message: I will be nearby.

Once the heavy chamber doors closed, only the royal family remained: Maitra, Arjun, Veer, Malti, Rukmini, and the King. Beside the King sat Purohit Ji, the royal priest and astrologer, his eyes wise behind spectacles as he held a collection of parchments and a small wooden chest containing astrological tools.

"Begin, revered one," the King requested, gesturing to Purohit Ji. "We seek your guidance on Maitra's marital prospects. Analyze her Kundali and reveal compatible matches from the proposed alliances."

Purohit Ji nodded, unfolding parchments covered in intricate astrological symbols. He began studying them intently, murmuring calculations under his breath.

"Princess's birth star is Rohini... influenced by Chandra Deva," Purohit Ji noted, his eyes scanning the markings. Suddenly, his expression grew deeply thoughtful as he paused and looked up at the King and family.

"Interesting revelations emerge from Princess Maitra's Kundali," Purohit Ji declared softly. "Her destiny indicates she will become queen of a powerful land, bringing glory to her lineage."

The King and her family exchanged pleased, relieved smiles at the promising omen. But the priestโ€™s expression remained guarded as he continued in a cautious tone, "However... none of the current proposalsโ€”Kamarupa, Gujarat, or Odishaโ€”align with her celestial charts. Her path diverges completely from these alliances."

Prince Arjun frowned, his brow furrowing in confusion. "What could this mean, Purohit Ji? Does she reject these suitable matches?"

Purohit Ji locked his eyes onto the parchment once more before answering. "Her birth chart clearly states... Paradesh gaman. She will go to a foreign land."

Gasps echoed through the royal chamber as shocked, puzzled looks swept across the family.

"Foreign land... could this mean a neighboring state, Purohit Ji?" Prince Veer asked, leaning forward. "Like Mithila or Gandhara?"

"Possibly..." Purohit Ji nodded slowly, his gaze fixed on the celestial alignment. "Yet the cosmos imply something far more distant."

Maitra felt her heart race as the words foreign land echoed in her mind. Unaware of the quiet chatter and speculation rising around her, her eyes drifted to the high arches of the hall, as if glimpsing an unseen horizon.

Night soon descended upon the palace, bathing Maitraโ€™s spacious chambers in the soft, warm glow of candlelight. Gentle music echoed softly in the background as Tara and Nandini sat beside her on a plush couch, untangling her long hair to rebraid it with intricate floral designs. Outside the heavy wooden doors, Do-hyun stood guard in the quiet hallway, his sharp eyes fixed on the corridor.

Noticing Maitraโ€™s distant, quiet gaze, Tara gently paused her work. "Bai-sa, your mind wanders tonight. What troubles you?"

"Yes," Nandini added with genuine concern. "Usually you would be teasing us about our braiding skills by now."

Maitra let out a faint sigh, her eyes cast downward. "Purohit Jiโ€™s words earlier... Paradesh gaman. A foreign land. My heart keeps repeating those words."

Tara and Nandini exchanged thoughtful glances before Tara spoke up. "We thought it meant perhaps a neighboring kingdom, Bai-sa... but your expression suggests you think differently?"

"What if it's not just another Indian kingdom?" Maitra nodded slowly, looking up at her maidens. "What if... my destiny lies beyond our lands entirely?"

Nandiniโ€™s eyes widened. "Beyond India, Bai-sa? That would mean... marrying outside our culture."

Maitraโ€™s gaze lingered on the chamber doors, her thoughts naturally connecting Do-hyunโ€™s steadfast presence outside to the uncertainty ahead. Sensing her distraction, Tara asked softly, "Bai-sa, does Do-hyun-ji cross your mind because he'd protect you anywhere... even in a foreign land?"

"Yes, Tara," Maitra replied thoughtfully, her voice calm. "Do-hyun-jiโ€™s duty and skill would make him an excellent escort wherever my path leads."

Nandini leaned in closer, curiosity sparkling in her dark eyes. "So, Purohit Jiโ€™s words have you wondering about this foreign land mention?"

"Exactly, Nandini. I'm puzzled by the prophecyโ€”what land could it be referring to?"

"Maybe we'll discover more when the King's emissaries return with information about neighboring kingdoms," Tara suggested soothingly.

Before Maitra could answer, a firm, low knock sounded at the chamber doors, followed by Do-hyunโ€™s familiar voice. "Princess, may I have a brief word?"

"Enter, Do-hyun," Maitra called out. "What news do you bring?"

Do-hyun stepped inside, his posture crisp and professional. "A messenger arrived from the palace gates, Princess. The King requests your presence in the morning for updates on the emissaries' progress."

As Do-hyun withdrew to his post, Tara looked over at Maitra. "Do you think the King has news about your... foreign land prophecy, Bai-sa?"

Maitra nodded quietly, already anticipating what the morning audience would reveal.

Busan Palace, Goryeo Kingdom

Far across the vast eastern seas, moonlight danced across the tranquil waters of Busan harbor, casting a cool silver glow over the grand stone arches of the royal palace grounds.

Standing high on the eastern wing balcony overlooking the bustling port city below, King Tae-ha stood in quiet reflection, his royal robes stirring in the night breeze.

From the shadowed corridor behind him, General Yu-bin approached silently. Stopping a respectful distance away, the general bowed deeply.

"Your Majesty," Yu-bin reported softly, breaking the night's stillness. "All is quiet in the kingdom tonight.โ€

Tae-ha nodded graciously, his piercing brown eyes remaining fixed on the horizon stretching over the sea.

"Thank you, General Yu-bin. My mind is quiet as well... yet troubled by recurring dreams."

His curiosity piqued, General Yu-bin straightened up slightly, studying the King's quiet expression. "Dreams, Your Majesty? Perhaps omens or visions related to our kingdom's prosperity?"

Tae-ha turned toward him, his expression deeply thoughtful. "Not prosperity, General Yu-bin... but a distant land. Dreams of unfamiliar architecture, vibrant markets, and... a fleeting smile. Though the face remains unclear, my heart feels an inexplicable bond to that place."

General Yu-bin's eyebrows rose slightly at the confession. "A bond, Your Majesty?"

"Yes," Tae-ha replied, turning his gaze back out toward the dark, open horizon as he nodded slowly. "Dreams haunt me nightly, General Yu-bin. I wake up feeling restless, sensing my destiny, our kingdom's destiny, intertwined with that mysterious place."

He paused, drifting deep into thought before adding in a soft whisper, "I donโ€™t know what destiny awaits... for Goryeo, for myself..."

The moon cast an eerie glow on King Tae-haโ€™s contemplative face, illuminating the quiet longing in his eyes. Beside him, General Yu-bin stood in silent respect, fully aware of the solemn weight carried in his ruler's words.
